Real world weather broke when the NWS change their data servers from http to https and needing valid certificates.  This change broke quite a few programs including ATCPro.  Quite a few people were hoping for Build 21 to fix this issue and other bugs, but it got delayed due to a programmer having a long term medical issues.  We have not hear any updates since.

The problem is not only the SSL redirect. Redirection seems to be working fine. Unzipping the GZIP archive at aviationweather.gov shows that there is some kind of problem with file naming convention. Renaming to metars.cache.xml.tar.gz fixes the unzip problem.


For those who are interested in a solution:

1.Add following line to your host file in '%windir$\system32\drivers\etc' as admin
        127.0.0.1   aviationweather.gov
2.Setup a local http server with python python. (Set checkbox 'Add Python 3.x to PATH)
3.Download working METAR and gzip it with 7zip (format: gz, all other params on default)
4.Create a local folder .\weather\adds\dataserver_current\current\ and copy the newly gzipped metar file here.
5. Start local mini webserver with python
        .\weather\py -m http.server 80
6. In ATCPro initiate weather download, that then is fetched from your local machine
7. Kill http webserver by CTRL-C
8. Comment out the change in your local host file

Hi all,
 Not hearing from the Dev team all this time does suck and is unprofessional in my opionin especially with this type of software. But regarding the "real world weather" , I just found a post from some guy online who posted a modified DLL "wxSimulator.dll" on DEC 2021 that will make the real world weather work. It did for me. Hope this helps everyone who hasn't been able to get this working.

This is awesome news! This works like a charm for me :)

As to the official development I'm not 100% sure if this is the ATCPro-Tom but looking on LinkedIn does make it seem so. I hope the remaining owner of the company will find the energy to eighter take in a new programmer or sell the source code to a company that can develop this further. Otherwise we will probably have to wait long before we see something this good :/

This is truly sad news.  I have been in touch with Tom off and on over the last few years and I just learned of his passing not too long ago.  God bless him and his family and may he rest in peace.
