Will you experts tell me what I'm doing wrong with the "descend via" commands? I have tried for over a year to try and make this work while running east flow, MIA north feeder and north final (V and N). It's incredibly frustrating because I enjoy running these positions, but manually directing altitude changes every time an aircraft moves into a different area of my sector is tedious.

Aircraft get handed off to me at BOYUR:
"AAL123 expect vectors visual approach runway 8 left"
Aircraft acknowledge.
"AAL123 descend via HI LEE FIVE arrival, runway 8 left transition"
No response.
"AAL123 descend via HI LEE arrival, runway 8 left transition"
No response.
"AAL123 descend via HI LEE FIVE arrival, 8 left transition"
No response.
"AAL123 descend via HI LEE arrival 8 left transition"
No response.

I've tried assigning runway 8 right and 9, but that doesn't work either. The readback on the communications window never even acknowledge that I've said "hiley" or "hiley five." Sometimes it says HITAG or something, but most of the time nothing works.

Any tips?

Kruel:

If you will send me the ATCpro log file from a session, I will look and see what the SR engine thought it heard you say.  Typically a "no response" indicates that the SR interpreter couldn't make any sense of what it heard.

In addition, if you will make some audio clips of your command utterances, I can push them through the SR engine and try to determine what is happening.  I recommend Audacity, a free audio utility, for the process.  Use mono, and 8K sampling.

Regards
