Yes Mark. You did answer the question.  Almost all of the pilots handed off from Center will report having the atis info and that is all you need.  Often times, a VFR aircraft will call inbound for landing or to overfly the airspace.  In the arrival case, the controller would provide the pilot the runway to expect, current wind and altimeter as a minimum of information.  With the overflight the minimum is to issue the altimeter setting.
